These valves are only required if the tap's spout can come into contact with the water in the basin (e.g., with a pull-out spray hose). If you have a tap with a fixed spout, basin water cannot flow back into the main supply line due to negative pressure. Negative pressure can occur if the fire brigade draws water from the main or during a water pipe leak.
