Heat pumps are energy-efficient domestic heating and cooling systems. They use cooling cycle technology to 'pump' heat from the outdoor environment to the buildings, with reduced electricity consumption (heating) or, reversibly, to transfer heat from the indoor environment to the outdoor environment (cooling).
Heat pumps can be used both in winter and in summer, creating a complete air-conditioning system with only one energy source: electricity. Based on the natural and unlimited energy contained in the air, heat pumps are officially recognised as one of the most important renewable sources.
The new HPM monoblock heat pumps with R32 refrigerant gas guarantee high performance with a low impact on the environment, ahead of European standards. The goal of environmental policy is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80-95% by 2050 compared to 1990 and to limit the global temperature increase to 2°C in order to prevent undesirable climate effects.
To this end, European Regulation 517/2014 prescribes a gradual reduction in greenhouse gases that will lead to a ban in 2025 on the use of gases with a global warming potential (GWP*) of 750 or more in appliances with a cooling load of less than 3 kg.
If we look at the refrigerant gases currently present in the air conditioning sector, R32 is the one that already meets the European requirements that will come into force in 2025.
Like R410A, R32 has an ODP (ozone depletion potential) value of zero: this means that if it is released into the atmosphere, it will not damage the ozone layer in any way.
However, R32 refrigerant gas has a much lower GWP value (675) than R410A gas (2088), i.e. a lower environmental impact. The heat pump with R32 gas needs less refrigerant and has a higher efficiency. R32 gas also has low toxicity and flammability, i.e. in the event of an accidental leak in a domestic installation, it would not reach a concentration and cause an explosion.
